A REAL DEAL: Bluebird Cafe
"Close your eyes and sniff this: an omelet chock full of crawfish, smoked sausage, and Spanish onions. A Louisiana seafood gumbo with little curlicues of cheese and scallions on top. Grilled jalapeno cheese grits. Corn tortillas with black beans, ranchero sauce, melted cheese, and fresh salsa. Pecan pie that melts on the tongue. And a bill with an amazingly low bottom line. Yes, it's good morning, New Orleans style, from a guy who ran two successful breakfast cafes in New Orleans, came to Rhode Island to be closer to his family, and expanded to include a dinner menu as well. Now open your eyes and drive to the Quo Vadis shopping center in Wakefield. You'll know when you get there. Even the parking lot smells good." -D.A.R., Rhode Island Monthly, May 1998 |

"A casual atmosphere and fun food have set this place apart as a new Uptown favorite. The leisurely approach of serving breakfast all day has really delighted the local crowd, since that's our idea of life in New Orleans."
-New Orleans Magazine, September 1992 |
"This delightful little eatery is tucked away a few blocks from the streetcar line. You will usually find a lively assortment of local characters here, mellow folk music in the air, and a breakfast menu that will make you wish you lived next door so you could eat like this every day. Breakfast served anytime! The Bluebird T-shirts are a much more authentic souvenir than the polyester dross heaped high in the French Quarter."
-American Libraries' Neighborhood Restaurants, June 1993 |
"An Uptown breakfast and lunch spot that attracts the Tulane-Loyola college crowd; cheap and good, with 'the best muffins, waffles, and pancakes in N'awlins,'...long lines will greet you, so be patient- fans say you won't be sorry, especially if you order the Huevos Rancheros."
